Att boka lokal bör vara en av de första sakerna ni som team eller individer gör. Att ha en bokad lokal underlättar många aspekter, bland annat i reklamen för evenemanget som kan spridas i god tid om ni har en lokal och en tid att hänga upp den på.
Även om lokalen är ett torg eller bara en grillplats bör ni vara tidigt ute med att fråga om tillstånd och se till så att ingen annan har planerat något på platsen under samma tid som ni hade tänkt er.
För att demonstrera fri programvara på allmän plats, såsom torg, gågator eller rondeller, behövs i regel tillstånd från den lokala polismyndigheten. Detta kostar oftast en slant, så kontrollera avgiften och era finanser innan ni bestämmer er för att genomföra något liknande. Tänk också på att ett ute-evenemang är utsatt för vädrets makter, så planera för alla eventualiteter genom att ha ett tält eller en reservlokal i bakfickan i händelse av dåligt väder. Datorer och pappersbroschyrer är ju inte alltför väderbeständiga.
